Amplified rDNA (Ribosomal DNA) Restriction Analysis (ARDRA) is based on the technique of RFLP (Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) analysis referring to the gene encoding the small (16s) ribosomal subunit of bacteria. The method consists of amplification of the 16s rRNA gene (rDNA) followed by restriction digestion with tetracutter restriction enzymes of the amplicon. The pattern obtained is representative of the species analysed. In order to get a reliable pattern analysis, AL-Diagnostic recommends Poly(NAT)®, Spreadex® or PCR CheckIT™ gels.
